Psychotherapy for adults, couples & families in English and French

A woman with long brown hair and blue eyes smiling indoors, wearing a purple shirt, with large green leaves partially obstructing her shoulder, and a blurred background featuring a window and shelves.
A cozy living space with large windows allowing sunlight, a white sofa with cushion, a white armchair with a decorative pillow, a small white desk with papers and a lamp, a black office chair, a white cushioned stool, a tall modern floor lamp, a textured area rug, brick column, and a view of a city street with parked cars and buildings outside.

Welcome / Bienvenue

Hello and bonjour. I'm Helene Schmitt, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) based in Los Angeles. I work with adults and couples who are looking for a place to slow down, make sense of what they're carrying, and find a way forward that actually fits their life.

My practice is bilingual (English and French), and I see clients online throughout California or in person in West LA.

Who I work with

The people who come to me bring a wide range of stories. There are some patterns in who tends to find me a good fit:

Couples & CNM/poly relationships

Couples and partners, including those in consensually non-monogamous relationships, who are stuck in painful communication patterns or recurring conflicts, and want to rebuild safety and connection.

Expats, francophones & multicultural families

People navigating life between cultures, including French speakers who'd like to do therapy in their native language. As an immigrant myself, I know the texture of this experience from the inside.

Adults navigating life transitions

Career changes, separations, becoming a parent, the slow realization that something needs to shift. These are moments where ambivalence and mixed emotions can be confusing and isolating.

Self-esteem

People who feel deeply, think deeply, and often struggle with self-doubt, perfectionism, comparison, or a persistent feeling of not being enough.

How I work

My approach is warm, honest, and engaged. Think of therapy as a collaborative dialogue where I use my training in psychodynamic therapy, EFT and attachment theory, alongside my own lived experience across cultures, to help guide the process.

Lasting change rarely comes from forcing ourselves, or our partner, to be different. It often begins with understanding our patterns, developing compassion, and creating new ways of relating to ourselves and others.
